This page quotes with permission the Blue Book, 3rd edition (p.21), with some minor editorial changes and additions. More terms and abbreviations are defined on the Blue Book Notations Explained page.
Color is subjective and often difficult to characterize. There are scientific color numbering systems in use in the publishing and textiles industries, but collectors tend to use more descriptive terms. The following colors and their corresponding abbreviations were used in describing color for this catalog.
I have started adding links to images showing examples of these colors. In order to keep things as simple as possible the border of the patch will be the color in question. Please remember, the particular shade in each example is not necessarily the only shade to be called that color. Color in patches is highly subjective.
In order for examples to be added as quickly as possible, if you know of a good example of a border color not already shown here, please write me so I may add the link.
